The Barstow Rodeo was started in the 1940’s. The event was on the last weekend of September. The rodeo was a part of the rodeo cowboys association which is now the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. The original rodeo lasted until sometime in the 1950’s when the rodeo grounds were destroyed by fire.
In 1988, a group of rodeo enthusiasts formed a committee of six Barstonians and the rodeo was again in business. Today, four of the six original committee members are still involved. The rodeo is still held the last weekend of September and is properly called the Barstow Rodeo Stampede.
The rodeo in now incorporated as a 501 C3 charity and is dedicated to challenged children, Each year special guests include foster children of the high desert, residents of the Veterans Home of Barstow and area convalescent homes and mentally, physically and educationally challenged children of both areal school districts.
